The Center for Research and Development of Religious Education, Office of
Research and Development and Training, Ministry of Religious Affairs of the
Republic of Indonesia organized the International Symposium on the Strategic
Role of Religious Education in the Development of a Culture of Peace in the "Rain
City," Bogor, West Java.
For three days, 10-12 September 2012, symposium participants from various
countries discussed how religious education both at school and in the family can
contribute very significantly to the prevention of the spread of radical attitudes
and movements in society.
The purpose of the symposium was to formulate a concept and strategic
approach to religious education in the development of a culture of peace in the
midst of a pluralistic society, and to build a network of cooperation among
research institutions in different countries in the field of religious education
research.
Therefore, the participants invited to attend the symposium were those who
have been involved in efforts to develop a culture of peace in their respective
communities. Based on those experiences, their presence at the symposium was
expected to generate valuable ideas for the development of an intelligent and
civilized society.
